Pilot Mountain State Park is a 1,400-foot monadnock located in Surry County near the town of Pinnacle. In 2004, GFBA completed the Jomeokee Trail Improvements project that consisted of 2,900 feet of trail renovation. The renovations to the existing trail, which was severely eroded, greatly improved visitor accessto and around the Big Pinnacle. Constructed improvements included gravel surfacing, stone steps and cribwalls, and an overlook. With no vehicular access for construction, the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation coordinated with the N.C. National Guard to airlift materials into designated staging areas along the trail length.
